Who is Caipora Books?
Caipora Books is an independent publishing company founded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and now based in Berlin, Germany. We bring forgotten folklore, dark fantasy, and eerie narratives to the world—stories that have been overlooked, untold, or lost in time.
We believe that representation and diversity take many forms—and for us, that means embracing folklore and dark narratives as a powerful way to explore history, identity, and imagination.
Who is Caipora?
Caipora is a mystical guardian spirit from Indigenous Brazilian mythology. A powerful protector of the forests and their creatures, Caipora is an ancient symbol of nature, mystery, and ancestral wisdom.
It is imperative to acknowledge that Kurupira / Curupira / Caipora / Kaipora belongs to the Indigenous people of Brazil. This is an ancestral treasure, and we treat it with the respect it deserves.
To me, Caipora is one of the most beautiful and mysterious folklore figures in the world—yet few outside South America have ever heard of it. That needs to change.
