The Scent of Blossoms on Winter Nights — A Tale from The Black Forest, Germany

May 5, 2025

A long, long time ago, there was an old woman living with her granddaughter in a cottage in the woods.

Every evening, she would tell the girl her favorite tale: the tale of an amazing flower that would bloom only on very, very cold winter nights, with a wonderful smell and healing powers.

As the years passed, the old woman grew even older, and she became very, very sick.
She was afraid of what would happen to her granddaughter when she was no longer there, and she had no money to pay a physician.

So, in despair, the young girl went to the woods and searched for the healing flower.

When she had almost given up in the cold, she saw a shimmer.
She followed it… and she found the flower.

But the smell was so enchanting, so magical, that she became dizzy, and she fell asleep in the snow.
And there she froze to death.

Until today, among those woods, walks her ghost — smelling of the amazing, magical flower.
