A long time ago, there lived a very evil man in Wurzbach, Germany.
Nobody was fond of him—especially not his young wife.
She had married him only to escape poverty, so she would not starve to death.
One day, a young lad from the next village fell in love with her, and she fell in love with him.
Together, they planned to run away.
But they never knew that her husband already knew of the plan.
He waited for them in the swamp, near the bridge.
When they arrived, he struck them both and threw their bodies into the water.
The man was never heard from again.
One day, villagers found the lifeless body of the young woman in the swamp, and they buried her.
But the body of the young lad was never found.
And until today, on certain evenings, people say there is a man walking about—
dirty, drenched, and silent.
They say you should never stand in his way.
For he is searching for the man who struck his beloved—himself.
